JAI SAM PEREIRA (SK8) -
Born: Jun 21, 1967
Date of Passing: Jun 27, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAI SAM PEREIRA (SK8) 1967 - 2001 Instantly, after a vehicle accident on June 27, 2001 on Portage and Garry in Winnipeg, our beloved Jai and his love mate Alana Lowry died. They are survived by preteen daughters, 12 year old Sydney (Csuk) and six year old Veronica Lowry-Pereira. Also grieving the loss of these two wonderful people are dad Cecil; mom Ena (Dick) sister Asha (Grant), Allie, Marlo and Logan; brother Matthew; aunts, Winifred, Georgina, Meena (Terrance), Hareen (Joe) uncles, Stephen (Angele), Dilip (Donna) and Pereira/Singh relatives and many, many friends. Jai was a devoted mate, son, brother, uncle and friend. A loving, caring human who accepted everyone at "heart value". Jai was born in St. Boniface Hospital on the first day of summer, June 21, 1967. He attended neighbourhood schools, Van Bellingham, Shorewood Hills, Madison, WI (USA), St. Emile, Montrose and Grant Park High. He swam, ran track, played in the band and for the Pirates Football, had a paper route, and was a Beaver and a Boy Scout. He travelled all over Canada, the United States, and Europe on family trips, school trips, and later on business. With courage he stood up for good, so-called "hopeless cases", like struggling young musicians introducing new sounds. He mobilized youth to elect an "unknown" Sharon Carstairs to the legislature, and to fight for their rights. "Skateboarding is not a crime" has a deeper message than that of defiance. The family thanks the Winnipeg Emergency Response, the Winnipeg Police Service, staff at the Health Sciences Centre and the many who offered support. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. A Sydney and Veronica Trust Fund is available at the HSBC, 240 Graham Ave., Winnipeg, in Jais and Alanas memory.
